Acid or alkaline body

April 25, 2022

In this post titled “Acidic or Alkaline Body” you will find relevant information about a condition called Acidosis. There are various causes that trigger it, discussed in the following post, along with its symptoms, treatments, and even detection and care. This information is scientific in nature, and if you have any symptoms or suspect acidosis, you should consult a doctor or contact us via WhatsApp at 663 215 6973.

When acid levels in the blood are too high, it is called acidosis. When your blood is too alkaline, it is called alkalosis. Each of these conditions is caused by an underlying disease or disorder. Treatment depends on the cause. However, stress is a catalyst for an acidic body.

Does Rilassáre’s alternative medicine replace traditional medicine?

No, alternative medicine is a complement to the treatments that the patient may already be undergoing and is not contraindicated in any case due to its safety and lack of adverse reactions or effects. Alternative medicine helps strengthen your immune system and regulates your body’s acidity for optimal functioning.

What is acid-alkaline balance?

Your blood needs the right balance of acidic and alkaline (basic) compounds to function properly. This is known as the acid-alkaline balance. Your kidneys and lungs work to maintain this balance. Even small variations from the normal range can significantly affect your vital organs. Acidity and alkalinity levels are measured on a pH scale. An increase in acidity lowers the pH level. An increase in alkalinity raises the pH level.

When acid levels in the blood are too high, it is called acidosis. When your blood is too alkaline, it is called alkalosis. Respiratory acidosis and alkalosis are due to a lung problem. Metabolic acidosis and alkalosis are due to a kidney problem. Each condition is caused by an underlying illness or disorder. Treatment depends on the cause. However, stress is a catalyst for an acidic body.

Respiratory Acidosis

When you breathe, your lungs remove excess carbon dioxide from your body. When they can’t do this, your blood and other fluids become too acidic, leading to an acidic body.

Symptoms of Respiratory Acidosis

Some symptoms may include fatigue, shortness of breath, and confusion.

Causes of Respiratory Acidosis

There are several different causes of respiratory acidosis, including:

  • Chest deformities or injuries
  • Chronic lung and airway diseases
  • Excessive use of sedatives
  • Obesity
  • Very high levels of stress

Types of Respiratory Acidosis

Unfortunately, there are no noticeable symptoms of respiratory acidosis. This is mainly because your blood becomes acidic gradually, and your kidneys adjust to compensate for the acidity levels, restoring your blood to a normal pH balance. However, excessive body acidity can reach a point where it severely damages your body.

Acute respiratory acidosis occurs suddenly, and the kidneys do not have time to adapt to the acidity levels. Patients with acute respiratory acidosis may develop another illness triggered by the acute acidosis, worsening their condition.

Diagnosis of Respiratory Acidosis

A complete physical exam is required. Tests and diagnostics may include:

  • Arterial blood gas test
  • Metabolic panel
  • Pulmonary function test
  • Obesity
  • Chest X-ray

Treatment of Respiratory Acidosis

It is necessary to see a doctor immediately to treat acute respiratory acidosis, as it can be a life-threatening condition. Treatment targets the cause. Bronchodilator medications may be administered to correct certain forms of airway obstruction. If your blood oxygen level is too low, you may need oxygen. Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation or a respirator may be required.

To treat chronic respiratory acidosis, the underlying cause must be identified for appropriate treatment. The cause could be an organ deformity, an infection, or some type of inflammation. Each cause may require different treatments, ranging from antibiotics to a respirator. In any case, if you smoke, you will be advised to quit, as it worsens acidosis.

Complications of Respiratory Acidosis

Respiratory acidosis is serious and requires immediate medical attention. Possible complications from untreated or improperly treated respiratory acidosis include respiratory failure and organ failure. Both cases are life-threatening.

Prevention of Respiratory Acidosis

You can take steps to help prevent some of the conditions that lead to respiratory acidosis. Maintain a healthy weight. Take sedatives only under strict medical supervision and never combine them with alcohol. Do not smoke. A preventive and routine treatment to regulate your blood acidity is available at Rilassáre Stress Management Clinic.

Metabolic Acidosis

Metabolic acidosis occurs when your body produces too much acid or when your kidneys cannot properly eliminate it. Stress is a catalyst (accelerator) for the production of acid in your body.

Symptoms of Metabolic Acidosis

Some of the main symptoms may include rapid breathing, fatigue, and confusion.

Causes and Types of Metabolic Acidosis

There are 3 main types of metabolic acidosis. Diabetic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis, is a buildup of ketone bodies. This is mostly due to uncontrolled type 1 diabetes. Hyperchloremic acidosis occurs when your body loses too much sodium bicarbonate, often after very severe diarrhea. Lactic acidosis occurs when too much lactic acid builds up. This can result from:

  • Prolonged exercise
  • Lack of oxygen
  • Certain medications, including salicylates
  • Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia
  • Alcohol
  • Seizures
  • Liver failure
  • Cancer
  • Kidney disease (nephropathy)
  • Severe dehydration
  • Poisoning from consuming too much aspirin, ethylene glycol, and methanol
  • High levels of stress

Diagnosis of Metabolic Acidosis

Some diagnostic tests may include serum electrolytes, urine pH, and arterial blood gases. Once acidosis is confirmed, further tests may be necessary to identify the root cause.

Treatment of Metabolic Acidosis

The underlying condition behind the acidosis must be treated. In some cases, sodium bicarbonate is prescribed to return the blood to a normal pH. A treatment at Rilassáre Stress Management Clinic helps regulate your blood acidity through alternative medicine and IV therapy.

Complications of Metabolic Acidosis

In severe reported cases, it can lead to shock and be life-threatening.
